Bandits abducted two councillors and an imam in Zamfara’s Gusau on Wednesday night, seizing them near a police outpost.
Bandits on Wednesday night abducted two councillors and an imam during a raid at Tsauni community in Gusau, Zamfara State.
The victims, councillors representing Gidan Goga and Tsibiri wards in Maradun Local Government Area, were taken around 8:05 p.m. near a police outpost after Maghrib prayers.
Maradun chairman, Hon. Sanusi Gama Giwa, confirmed the abductions, identifying the councillors as members of his council. “It happened right in front of a police station where officers are usually present. The bandits even collected phones from the police officers without resistance. They didn’t harm anyone,” he said.
Giwa explained that the attackers had sought a man from Kaura village but abducted six others instead. Three were later released, leaving the councillors and imam in captivity.
Police spokesperson DSP Yazid Abubakar confirmed the incident, saying operatives had been deployed. “We are doing everything within our power to rescue the victims and bring the perpetrators to justice,” he said.
