Bandits opened fire on a convoy in Gusau LGA, killing 15 people including soldiers.

Armed bandits have killed five soldiers and ten villagers in an ambush along the Lilo–Gulubba Road in Gusau Local Government Area, Zamfara State.

The attack occurred on Monday when troops were escorting traders from Lilo Village to Gusau market. Eyewitnesses said the assailants suddenly opened fire on the convoy after emerging from hiding.

Community representatives from Lilo, speaking at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Gusau on Wednesday, described the incident as a devastating loss. They urged government intervention to address insecurity and poor infrastructure in the area.

Mohammed Mohammed, a spokesperson for the community, confirmed that ten villagers and five soldiers died in the attack.

“The soldiers fought bravely in a heavy exchange of fire, but five lost their lives alongside ten villagers,” one witness recounted.

Local leaders have appealed for urgent support in education, healthcare, road construction, and security. Army spokesperson Captain David Adewusi said he was not yet aware of the incident.
