Bauchi police arrest teen, six others for removing sister’s eyes

Police in Bauchi have arrested a 17-year-old boy and five others for allegedly plucking out the eyes of his seven-year-old sister in a suspected money ritual.

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 17-year-old boy, Auwal Dahiru, and five others for allegedly plucking out the eyes of his seven-year-old sister, Rukayya Muhammad, for ritual purposes in Ganjuwa Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson, CSP Mohammed Ahmed Wakil, said, “On 17 October 2025, at about 18:00 hours, one Muhammad Adamu reported that his daughter was attacked with the intention of killing her and an attempt was made to pluck out her eyes.”

Wakil added that detectives led by CSP Aliyu Mohammad Goni arrested the suspects and rescued the victim, who was rushed to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi.

Medical reports confirmed the child lost her eyesight permanently. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime. Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, directed that the case be transferred to the State CID for further investigation.
