A Nigerian human rights lawyer, Maduabuchi Idam, has petitioned the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), demanding it ban or heavily regulate the reality TV show Big Brother Naija over what he describes as “real-time pornography.”

In the petition sent to the NBC Director General, Idam accused the show of promoting indecency and moral decay, saying: “The show offers no educative, artistic, scientific, or literary value.”

He gave the NBC a 30-day ultimatum, threatening court action if the agency fails to act.

“I’m outraged that not only is this programme aired on national TV, its profane content is also proudly shared on the verified social media handles of the host company—in total disregard to public morality,” he added.

Idam referenced past NBC sanctions on music videos, questioning why BBNaija is exempt. He said the current season has already featured “brazen obscene displays” that damage the moral fabric of society, especially among the youth.

NBC has yet to respond.
