Jeff Bezos is reportedly interested in acquiring CNBC after Comcast spins it off into a new company later this year. The move could offer him a more neutral media platform amid ongoing turmoil at The Washington Post.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is considering a potential bid for CNBC once the business news network is spun off by Comcast later this year, according to sources familiar with his thinking. The billionaire has expressed interest to associates in acquiring the network, which could complement his media holdings by providing a more neutral voice amid mounting challenges at The Washington Post.

“CNBC would align well with his interests,” said a source close to Bezos.

The cable network is set to become part of a publicly traded entity called Versant, which includes MSNBC and USA Network. Comcast said Versant generated $7 billion in revenue last year.

Bezos, who bought The Washington Post in 2013, has faced backlash over the paper’s editorial shift and subscriber losses. His media ambitions reportedly also include interest in Vogue or its parent company, Condé Nast.

A Bezos spokesperson declined to comment. Sources close to Comcast say no direct talks have occurred, and Versant plans to grow CNBC, not sell it.
