Bill Gates sparked a social media frenzy after appearing in a Nigerian comedy skit alongside rapper MI Abaga and comedians Broda Shaggi and Layi Wasabi. The video, uploaded July 6, 2025, opened with Abaga struggling to compose lyrics before Gates arrived on a “keke” (tricycle) driven by Shaggi, only to be stopped by Wasabi’s overzealous security character.
The Microsoft co-founder, playing himself, advised Abaga: “It’s missing our connectedness. We have to make it show we’re all in this together.” When asked about optimism amid challenges, Gates replied in pidgin: “Na together we go win,” blending humor with the skit’s core message about African development.
While intended as advocacy, the video drew mixed reactions online, with some praising Gates’ cultural embrace and others questioning the approach.
@cdrafrica posted, “Bill Gates in a Nigerian comedy skit with MI, Broda Shaggi, and Layi Wasabi? Social media is on fire!”

Some fans also praised the unexpected collaboration, with @elenumeji tweeting, “MI Abaga, Broda Shaggi, Layi Wasabi, and BILL GATES? This skit is pure gold!”
However, not all reactions were positive. @ingas wrote, “Bill Gates? Of all people. Some of y’all will sell your souls for clout.”
@greenongreen wrote, “This is a sell out. And, what actually is the point of this video? That, as Africans, we cannot solve our own problem until a white man comes to save and rescue us. This is absurd! I expected MI, Broda Shaggi and Layi to know better.”
@biyibjorn quipped, “Bill Gates must be looking for the fountain of youth in Africa… but when GRV becomes Lagos governor, he might ban him!”
The cameo marked Gates’ latest engagement with Nigerian creatives, following his foundation’s health and education initiatives in the country.
