Grieving relatives have begun submitting DNA samples as officials work to identify victims.
Investigators recovered a black box from the wreckage of Air India Flight 171, which crashed Thursday in a residential area of Ahmedabad, killing at least 279 people.
The London-bound Boeing 787 Dreamliner issued a mayday before crashing shortly after takeoff, bursting into flames upon impact with residential buildings.
Police reported 279 bodies recovered — 242 passengers and crew, and 38 residents.
One survivor, 40-year-old British citizen Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, told DD News: “Initially, I too thought that I was about to die, but then I opened my eyes and realised that I was still alive.”
