Blackburn Rovers plan job cuts across women’s team staff

An internal email sent Thursday announced a “group consultation process,” affecting all women’s football department staff, including medical, operations, marketing, and communications teams.

Blackburn Rovers Women face major restructuring, with over 20 staff members set for redundancy and all senior players to be released by the end of June. This follows the club’s demotion from the Women’s Super League 2, after finishing 10th in the table. The V H Group, Blackburn’s owners since 2010, opted not to meet licensing criteria needed to stay in the second tier.

An internal email sent Thursday announced a “group consultation process,” affecting all women’s football department staff, including medical, operations, marketing, and communications teams. “Many staff have resigned themselves to searching for jobs elsewhere,” said a source.

Players on average salaries of £9,000 will not be offered new contracts past 2024-25 and will be paid until their deals expire.

With the team set to join the fourth-tier National League Division 1 North, future operations remain uncertain. Sources claim the ownership capped the women’s budget at £100,000 for 2025-26.
