Bode George: PDP will collapse if Atiku runs in 2027

He cannot be the presidential candidate… I maintain that since the north has had the presidency for eight years, it is only fair and just for the south to have its turn.”

Bode George, former deputy national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has warned that the party may collapse if ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar emerges as its 2027 presidential candidate.

Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today, George stated, “If he (Atiku) picks the PDP ticket in 2027, that will be the end of this party.”

George, a member of the PDP Board of Trustees, said Atiku is pursuing personal interests rather than party unity. “He cannot be the presidential candidate… I maintain that since the north has had the presidency for eight years, it is only fair and just for the south to have its turn.”

Atiku, who lost the 2023 presidential election to Bola Tinubu of the APC, has been involved in discussions on forming an opposition coalition.

However, PDP governors have ruled out any merger or alliance ahead of 2027.

George asserted, “If he secures the ticket through any form of manipulation… we will not accept it.”
