Suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked a Nigerian Army base in Marte, Borno State, in the early hours of Monday, killing and capturing soldiers while seizing weapons. A security source revealed: “ISWAP has taken over Marte. Soldiers were killed, some captured, and others fled to Dikwa.” The insurgents burned armored vehicles and looted arms during the assault.
Residents reported heavy gunfire as the militants overpowered troops at the 153 Task Force Battalion’s Forward Operation Base. A Nigerian Air Force jet responded but failed to repel the attack. Marte, just 38km from Dikwa, has become the latest hotspot in a surge of terrorist raids targeting military positions across Borno and Yobe states.
The attack follows recent strikes on bases in Sabon Gari, Izge, and Wulgo, highlighting growing insecurity in the region. Military authorities have yet to issue an official statement on casualties or recovery efforts.
