NYSC Director-General Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu confirmed the move as a fulfillment of President Bola Tinubu’s 2024 pledge to align stipends with the national minimum wage.
“The government is conscious of its promise… even those who have recently passed out will benefit,” Nafiu said at a workshop in Abuja. The arrears cover July 2024 to March 2025.
Corps members had expressed frustration over continued N33,000 payments despite the wage increase. “Seeing the arrears hit my account feels like a burden lifted,” said Adebola Yusuf, serving in Osun. Another, Isma’il Isah, added, “It’s a step toward showing the government cares.”
Youth Minister Ayodele Olawande admitted the delays were due to budget and administrative issues but assured, “The payments are happening… all affected members will get their dues.”
