Daniel Bwala, media aide to President Bola Tinubu, has defended the president’s health, stating Tinubu is “physically fitter than most presidents in the advanced countries.” In an interview with DW Africa, Bwala addressed public concerns over Tinubu’s medical trips abroad and mounting endorsements ahead of the 2027 election.
He explained that endorsements stem from the All Progressives Congress’ mid-term performance review tradition, not a power consolidation move. “So, it’s not President Bola. Whoever is the president at the time… we will assess and see whether the president has performed,” he said.
Bwala said Tinubu passed that review with distinction, citing local government autonomy as a key achievement. “Deepening democracy is one, which is the introduction of local government autonomy,” he said.
He also highlighted free caesarean sections, prescription drug subsidies, and increased access to rice. “We’ve been able to register, I think, close to 10 million Nigerians in the national healthcare,” Bwala added.
