Bwala insists Lagos belongs to the Yoruba people

“Culturally, historically, and constitutionally, Lagos belongs to the Yoruba people, and that has never been in contention,” Bwala said.

Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, has clarified his remarks on Lagos being a “no man’s land.”

Speaking on Arise Television’s Daybreak programme, Bwala defended the federal government’s concentration of projects in Lagos, saying it is necessary to sustain the city’s economic role.

“My argument was for massive investments in infrastructure to sustain the economic and social responsibilities Lagos has shouldered on behalf of Nigeria,” he said.

However, Bwala stressed that Lagos “remains the cultural and historical homeland of the Yoruba people,” adding, “Culturally, historically, and constitutionally, Lagos belongs to the Yoruba people, and that has never been in contention.”

He described Lagos as “the heartbeat of the nation’s development,” likening it to New York or London, and noted that any president seeking success must support the city because of its strategic importance, not because it is “no man’s land.”
