A car crash in Wilmington, North Carolina, triggered a massive explosion on Tuesday after striking a building connected to a gas line, leaving several firefighters injured.
The vehicle reportedly lost control on a turn and slammed into the Eastern Carolina Veterinary Medical Center, according to local reports. Moments later, a huge blast shook the area, sending smoke and debris into the air. Videos shared online captured the fiery aftermath as bystanders watched in shock.
“It’s still unclear whether the collision sparked the explosion outright — or if the gas line blew moments later,” WECT-TV reported.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene, where at least four firefighters were hurt. Officials confirmed one suffered severe burns. The driver survived the crash and allegedly attempted to flee before being apprehended. Authorities said potential charges were under review.
The explosion has since gone viral, raising concerns about gas line safety in commercial areas.
