Several public officers have already been invited, including some high-profile individuals. This process is ongoing, and very soon, the public will begin to see the results.
The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has announced plans for a public whistleblowing platform to report public servants living beyond their means. Chairman Abdullahi Bello revealed the initiative during an interview with Daily Trust, disclosing that a new forensic accounting unit is already investigating suspicious asset declarations. “We’re comparing officials’ net worth over time and questioning unexplained increases,” said Bello, an EFCC veteran.
The bureau has summoned several high-profile figures, with results expected soon. “Transparency is critical – we need media spotlight on these cases,” Bello emphasized, urging Nigerians to report suspected corruption regardless of asset size. The chairman stressed that all public officials must declare assets, no matter how small.
“Fighting corruption is a shared responsibility,” Bello stated, calling for civil society collaboration. The move signals intensified scrutiny of public servants’ lifestyles amid Nigeria’s anti-graft efforts.
