Chad retaliates against U.S. with visa ban for American citizens

Chad has immediately halted visa issuance to U.S. citizens in response to Washington’s inclusion of Chadians in its revised travel restrictions. President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno announced the retaliatory measure on Facebook, framing it as a defense of national dignity. The move marks Africa’s strongest pushback yet against Trump’s policy, which targets seven African nations among twelve globally.

“Chad has no planes or billions, but we have dignity,” Déby declared, ordering “reciprocal suspension of US visas.” The ban affects a key diplomatic relationship amid growing African criticism of Trump’s immigration policies.
