An own goal by Leonard Ngenge and Walieldin Khdir’s penalty put Sudan 2–0 up before halftime.
Sudan defeated Nigeria 4–0 on Tuesday in Zanzibar to top Group D and end the Super Eagles’ African Nations Championship campaign with a game to spare.
An own goal by Leonard Ngenge and Walieldin Khdir’s penalty put Sudan 2–0 up before halftime. Abdel Raouf Yagoub scored twice in the second half to seal what coach Kwesi Appiah called “a disciplined, ruthless display that stuck to our plan from the first whistle to the last.”
“We were disciplined without the ball, fast in transition and ruthless in the box,” Appiah told the CAF website.
Nigeria started brightly, but Anthony Ijoma’s 22nd-minute goal was ruled out for offside by VAR. Minutes later, Ngenge’s misfortune opened the scoring for Sudan.
Coach Eric Chelle admitted: “We lost concentration at key moments. Once you’re chasing Sudan, they make the pitch feel very small.”
Nigeria exit with no goals scored and five conceded, while Sudan move on to face Senegal in their final group game.
