Snopes has confirmed Charlie Kirk once said some gun deaths were “worth it” to preserve Second Amendment rights, a remark that resurfaced after his death.
Charlie Kirk (2023): “I think it’s worth to have a cost of unfortunately some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the 2nd Amendment. That is a prudent deal. It is rational. Nobody talks like this. They live in a complete alternate universe.” pic.twitter.com/sEHw5suXEW

In the wake of Charlie Kirk’s death after a Utah campus shooting, a past remark he made on gun violence resurfaced online. Fact-checking site Snopes confirmed that the Turning Point USA CEO and co-founder did indeed say in April 2023 that some gun deaths were an acceptable cost of protecting constitutional rights.
During a TPUSA Faith event in Salt Lake City, Kirk responded to a question about defending the Second Amendment by saying, “I think it’s worth it. I think it’s worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights.”
Snopes verified the statement through archived video and audio from the event. Media Matters for America also published a transcript the following day. Social media users widely circulated the clip across Facebook, TikTok, X, and other platforms after Kirk’s fatal shooting on Sept. 10, 2025.
