Chelsea will donate part of their Club World Cup bonuses to the family of late Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, who died in a car crash in Spain’s Zamora province on July 3.

The west London club, crowned champions of FIFA’s expanded tournament in July after a 3-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain in New Jersey, earned an estimated $114.6million (£84.4m) from the competition.

From this, $15.5m (£11.4m) will be shared among the players, with an equal amount agreed to be given to Jota’s family. Each player’s share exceeds $500k before taxes and costs. The decision was made jointly by the club and the squad.

Liverpool have announced multiple tributes, including a memorial sculpture at Anfield, a ‘Forever 20’ emblem for the 2025-26 season, and a grassroots football programme in Jota’s name. The club has also retired the No. 20 shirt permanently.

A special fan mosaic and a minute’s silence will be held before Friday’s Premier League opener against Bournemouth.

Jota, who joined Liverpool from Wolves in 2020, scored 65 goals in 182 appearances.
