“I can’t go anymore because I think they’ve revoked my visa,” Petro said during a Council of Ministers meeting. “I didn’t need a visa, but hey, I’ve seen Donald Duck several times. So, I’m off to see other things.”

Colombian President Gustavo Petro revealed Monday that his U.S. visa has been revoked, preventing him from attending IMF and World Bank meetings this week. “I can’t go anymore because I think they’ve revoked my visa,” Petro said during a Council of Ministers meeting. “I didn’t need a visa, but hey, I’ve seen Donald Duck several times. So, I’m off to see other things.”

The move comes after a diplomatic clash with U.S. President Donald Trump, who in January accused Colombia of blocking two military flights deporting over 200 Colombian nationals. Trump imposed a 25% tariff on Colombian goods and announced visa sanctions on Petro’s administration and allies.

Petro, Colombia’s first leftist president, previously visited the U.S. for a climate summit and the UN General Assembly in 2024. Finance Minister Germán Avila will now represent Colombia in Washington. The U.S. State Department has not yet confirmed Petro’s visa status.
