Sean Combs was handed a 50-month sentence on Mann Act charges, with his lawyer warning he will serve time “in one of the worst prisons in America.”
Hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs was sentenced Friday to 50 months in federal prison on prostitution-related charges under the Mann Act. U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian also imposed a $500,000 fine, the maximum allowed.
Combs, 55, has already spent a year in custody, which means he could be released in about three years. He avoided a possible life sentence after being acquitted of racketeering and sex trafficking charges.
Defense attorney Jeffrey Lichtman said Combs will serve his term “in one of the worst prisons in America.” He added: “At the end of the day, as bad as Combs’ behavior was, it never was clear what federal laws he violated, if any. And 50 months in jail, a lot of it in one of the worst prisons in America, is a really serious punishment.”
Prosecutors had sought more than 11 years, while Combs’ legal team argued time served was sufficient.
