Conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot during a speech at Utah Valley University, with one suspect in custody and the FBI investigating.

Conservative activist and Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk was shot Wednesday while speaking at Utah Valley University, the school confirmed.

“Today at about 12:10 a shot was fired at the visiting speaker, Charlie Kirk,” the university said in a statement posted on social media. “He was hit and taken from the location by his security. Campus police is investigating, a suspect is in custody.”

The incident occurred while Kirk was addressing students from an outdoor tent. A campus alert indicated that only one shot was fired. The FBI has joined the investigation.

Kirk, a close ally of former President Donald Trump, was rushed from the scene by his security team. Trump reacted on social media shortly after the attack, though details of Kirk’s condition have not been made public.
