Cooking gas prices have dropped significantly across Nigeria as supply improves, with retailers expressing optimism that the market will stabilise within a week.

Retailers of cooking gas say prices have dropped from about N2,000 per kilogramme three weeks ago to between N1,300 and N1,500 over the weekend, following improved supply across the country.

Chairman of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Retailers Association of Nigeria, Ayobami Olarinoye, confirmed the development, noting that normalcy was gradually returning. “The product is gradually circulating. The price is dropping but not yet back to the former price. It is now between N1,300 and N1,600, depending on the location,” he said.

Olarinoye added that the market “is not yet stable, but there is considerable improvement,” expressing hope that full stability would return within a week if supply remains consistent.

Consumers also confirmed price reductions at local gas shops, though many said they await a further drop to around N900 per kilogramme.
