NBS reports a 44.5% rise in cooking gas prices year-on-year despite slight monthly relief.
The National Bureau of Statistics has reported a 44.51% year-on-year increase in the average retail price of a 12.5kg cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas in July 2025.
According to the July LPG Price Watch Report released on Tuesday, the price rose from N14,261.57 in July 2024 to N20,609.48 in July 2025, reflecting a sharp rise in household energy costs.
Despite the annual surge, the report showed a modest 1.91% month-on-month decrease, with prices dropping from N21,010.56 in June 2025 to N20,609.48 in July 2025. A 5kg cylinder also recorded a 0.96% monthly decline but increased by 37.98% year-on-year.
State analysis revealed Adamawa had the highest average price for refilling a 12.5kg cylinder at N22,528.39, while Yobe recorded the lowest at N19,030.00.
Zone-wise, the South-South region topped with N21,278.14, while the South-West had the lowest at N20,184.79.
