A Federal High Court has ordered UNILAG and OAU to suspend their 2025/2026 admission processes following allegations that a system glitch wrongly flagged candidates for examination malpractice during the Post-UTME.

A Federal High Court in Enugu has directed the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) to suspend admission processing for the 2025/2026 academic session pending the determination of a suit challenging alleged irregularities in this year’s Post-UTME.

The case was brought by five candidates who claimed they were wrongly flagged for examination malpractice by the schools’ screening system. One of them, Adura Gbemi, told FIJ she was shocked when OAU emailed her on September 4 stating her results had been withheld due to “observed screening exercise malpractice.”

The email further warned: “You will not be eligible for admission at Obafemi Awolowo University. The recorded video evidence will be shared with appropriate security authorities for necessary action.”

Education experts suggested a system glitch was to blame, with Alex Onyia, CEO of Educare, writing on X that OAU and UNILAG’s vendor “developed a major bug which affected both schools and erroneously flagged innocent students for fraud they never committed.”

Affected students also took to social media to protest what they described as arbitrary disqualification without evidence.

The court, in its September 30 order, suspended admission processes at both universities and adjourned the matter to October 28. UNILAG and OAU spokespersons declined substantive comments.
