An Abuja Federal High Court dismissed Nnamdi Kanu’s no-case submission, ruling he must defend terrorism charges.
The Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday dismissed the no-case submission filed by Biafra separatist leader Nnamdi Kanu in his ongoing terrorism trial. Justice James Omotosho ruled that the Federal Government had established a prima facie case, requiring Kanu to enter his defence.
Delivering the ruling, Justice Omotosho stated that “it is in the best interest of Kanu to be given the opportunity to clear some issues raised against him.” The decision paves the way for the continuation of proceedings on terrorism-related charges brought by the government.
Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has faced a protracted legal battle since his arrest and extradition to Nigeria in 2021. His legal team had argued that the prosecution failed to establish evidence warranting a defence, but the court disagreed.
The matter will proceed with Kanu presenting his defence, while further details on the next hearing date are expected to be announced.
