Lozano reportedly dubbed the home a “house of horrors” during the press conference, while ABC reported that the children had also been living among feces since 2021.
A German couple has been arrested in Oviedo, Spain, for allegedly locking their three children inside their home for over three years following the COVID-19 pandemic. The parents, a 53-year-old man and his 48-year-old American-German wife, face charges of domestic violence, psychological abuse, and child abandonment, according to local police reports.
Authorities rescued the children—8-year-old twins and a 10-year-old—on April 28 after neighbors reported never seeing the family leave the rented home since December 2021. Police noted the father only exited to collect groceries and mail, while the children remained completely isolated, per Spanish outlets El Comercio and El Mundo.
The case, described as a “house of horrors,” highlights extreme pandemic-era isolation gone unchecked. Investigators found only the father’s name on the lease, raising questions about oversight. The children are now in protective custody as the couple awaits trial. Spanish authorities have yet to comment further on the psychological state of the rescued minors.
