Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly has drawn backlash over remarks about the late Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola, first General Evangelist of the Christ Apostolic Church.
In a viral sermon clip, Fatoyinbo described Babalola as “anointed… so anointed” but claimed “all the grace just went like that” because he “had no money.” He also recounted an incident in which a python allegedly dried up after crossing Babalola’s leg.
The CAC, in a statement signed by its Director of Publicity, Pastor Ade Alawode, criticised Fatoyinbo for linking ministerial success to material wealth. “To equate anointing or ministerial success with material wealth is biblically flawed,” it said, quoting Luke 12:15.
The church insisted Babalola was not poor, noting he owned a Ford Jeep, lived in a “befitting home,” and hosted dignitaries including Queen Elizabeth II in 1956. It added that his surviving children are “blessed, fulfilled, and quietly serving the Lord… not loud, ostentatious, or greedy.”
