The Peoples Democratic Party has directed its National Lal Adviser to begin legal proceedings to recover the mandate of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other defectors who recently joined the All Progressives Congress.

Speaking after a National Working Committee meeting in Abuja, Acting Chairman Umar Damagum said, “According to the Electoral Act, any elected official who defects automatically relinquishes the office they occupy.”

Damagum announced the dissolution of PDP structures in Delta and mandated a South-South caretaker committee led by Emmanuel Ogidi to take over.

The NWC also approved zonal congresses for the South-West, North-East, and South-East, and named a caretaker committee for the North Central zone.

Despite recent defections, Damagum maintained that the party remains united: “There is no crisis… this party has survived many attempts in the past—this one is child’s play.”

He confirmed preparations for the National Executive Committee meeting on May 27 and the national convention from August 28 to 30, pending NEC approval.
