Dangote resumes Naira-based petrol sales

Dangote Refinery has reinstated naira-based petrol sales after briefly suspending them due to crude allocation issues, following federal government intervention.

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has resumed the sale of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in naira following the intervention of the Federal Government’s Naira-for-Crude Technical Committee.

In a memo to fuel marketers on Saturday, the refinery said: “Following the intervention of the Naira for Crude Technical Committee Chairman, we are pleased to inform you of the resumption of PMS sales in Naira commencing immediately.” Marketers were instructed to “proceed to place your orders in naira for both self-collection and free delivery.”

The decision comes barely 24 hours after Dangote announced the suspension of naira-based fuel sales, effective Sunday, September 28, 2025, citing the exhaustion of its crude-for-naira allocation. “We are unable to sustain PMS sales in naira going forward,” the earlier memo stated, offering refunds to customers.

The refinery’s reversal suggests a swift government-led resolution to avert fuel supply disruptions.
