A massive overnight Russian strike on Ukraine triggered NATO air alerts in Romania and Poland after a drone briefly crossed into Romanian airspace.
NATO aircraft were scrambled in Romania and Poland after a drone briefly entered alliance airspace during Russia’s largest November attack on Ukraine, according to a report from ABC NEWS.
Officials in Bucharest said one drone penetrated about five miles into Romanian territory before disappearing from radar. The Defense Ministry noted the drone later appeared intermittently along the Moldovan-Romanian border before contact was lost. “No cases of impact with the ground of any aerial vehicle have been reported,” the ministry said, adding that specialist teams were prepared to conduct field searches.
The overnight strike killed at least 10 people in the western Ukrainian city of Ternopil, where two nine-story residential buildings were hit, Ukraine’s Interior Ministry said. “One is on fire, the other has destruction from the third to the ninth floor,” the ministry reported, adding that about 500 rescuers and over 100 units of equipment were deployed at nine active locations.
Ukraine’s air force said Russia launched 476 drones and 48 missiles across multiple regions, including Lviv, Ternopil and Kharkiv, marking the largest attack since October 30. Defenders intercepted or suppressed 442 drones and 41 missiles, though impacts were recorded in 14 locations.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said attacks were reported nationwide, writing, “Every brazen attack against normal life indicates that the pressure on Russia is insufficient.”
