On Monday, 71 mourners were slain at a funeral in Nyoto, and on Tuesday another 18 civilians were killed in Beni, both located in North Kivu province. The ADF, which pledged allegiance to ISIS in 2019, carried out both massacres—increasingly targeting civilians in the region .
Despite ongoing joint military operations by Congolese and Ugandan forces, the violence persists. The government declared it would continue the hunt for terrorists: “It remains resolutely committed to continuing military operations and the hunt for terrorists, which have already resulted in the neutralization of several of them, the destruction of several of their bases, and the release of civilian hostages,” officials stated .
