Four people have been confirmed dead and four rescued after a three-storey building collapsed in Yaba, Lagos, as search operations continue.

The death toll from Friday’s building collapse in Yaba, Lagos State, has risen to four, officials confirmed on Sunday. Acting Head of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos Operations Office, Ibitayo Adenike, said another male body was recovered from the rubble, bringing the tally to eight victims — four dead and four rescued.

The three-storey building, located at No. 333 Borno Street, Alagomeji, Yaba, collapsed around 8:30 p.m. on Friday, trapping several people beneath the debris. “Search and rescue operations are still ongoing,” Ms. Adenike said.

Emergency responders, including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Building Control Agency, the Nigeria Police Force, and other agencies, have been working at the site.

Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the collapse, while rescue workers continue efforts to locate anyone still trapped.
