Declare armed herdsmen as terrorists – David Mark

David Mark calls for urgent security reforms, including proscribing open grazing and creating a border force to combat terrorism and kidnapping.

Former Senate President David Mark has urged the federal government to designate armed herdsmen as terrorists, citing continued violence in Plateau and Benue states. In an Easter message via his media aide, Paul Mumeh, Mark said, “We must not shy away from the truth. If they are not terrorists, why are they killing people, destroying communities and chasing people away from their ancestral homes?”

He called for the prohibition of open grazing, proposing enclosed ranching instead. Mark also suggested establishing a National Border Security Force to curb the influx of foreign criminals. “We must change our strategy… maybe we can begin to think of fencing our borders like India, Israel, the U.S. and Mexico,” he added.

He expressed sympathy to victims and urged stronger security responses to tackle insecurity nationwide.
