Delta Police say indecent dressing now attracts fines or community service under the VAPP Law, with more enforcement updates to be shared weekly.

The Delta State Police Command has announced that individuals who dress indecently in public risk punishment under the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law.

In a post shared on its official X account on Saturday, the police said, “Delta State government nor dey smile for that kain dressing… VAPP law don ready to punish anybody wey nor dress well.”

Offenders could face a ₦50,000 fine or be sentenced to community service. The police also pledged to share more laws every weekend to educate residents on offences the state frowns upon.

The VAPP Act, signed nationally in 2015 and domesticated in Delta in 2020, prohibits various forms of violence, including abandonment, harmful widowhood practices, and indecent exposure.

Section 26 of the law prescribes up to one year imprisonment or a ₦500,000 fine for exposing genital organs to cause distress or induce sexual acts.

The police emphasized the importance of public awareness and adherence to the law to maintain order and decency.
