Dhul Hijjah moon sighted in Saudi Arabia, Eid-el-Kabir on June 6

Saudi Arabia has announced the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent moon, marking the beginning of the holy month.

Authorities in Saudi Arabia have confirmed the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent moon, signaling the start of the 12th month of the Islamic calendar. According to a post on Tuesday by Haramain, a Saudi-based Islamic news platform, Wednesday will be the first day of Dhul Hijjah.

“The crescent moon has been sighted in Saudi Arabia — Dhul Hijjah 1446 begins tonight,” the post stated. “Day of ‘Arafah: 5 June 2025; Eid Al-Adha: 6 June 2025.”

Muslims worldwide observe heightened devotion during Dhul Hijjah, particularly the Hajj pilgrimage. In Nigeria, the Sultan of Sokoto had earlier directed Muslims to watch for the crescent on Tuesday and report sightings through local authorities to the Sultanate Council.
