Sean “Diddy” Combs has been sentenced to more than four years in prison after being convicted of two prostitution-related offences, though he was cleared of sex-trafficking and racketeering conspiracy charges.
The hip-hop mogul, 55, made an emotional plea for “mercy” ahead of sentencing, apologising for the “hurt and pain” he caused. But Judge Arun Subramanian said Combs had abused “power and control” over women he claimed to love and rejected arguments that his so-called “freak off” encounters were consensual. “This is not just a sex, drugs and rock’n’roll story,” the judge said.
Combs was convicted in July of arranging flights within the U.S. and abroad for sexual encounters with girlfriends and male sex workers, in violation of federal prostitution laws. He faced up to 20 years but received a shorter term than the 11 years prosecutors had sought. His lawyers argued for release due to time served, calling the government’s request “wildly out of proportion.”
The case featured testimony from singer Cassie Ventura, who accused Combs of coercion and described being blackmailed into encounters. Jurors also saw video of him dragging and beating her in 2016. In her letter to the court, Cassie called Combs a “manipulator” and said she still feared for her safety.
