Wike and Fayose’s camp dismissed their expulsion from the PDP, describing the Ibadan convention as a drunken “Dirty December in November.”
The camp of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has dismissed their expulsion from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the development as a product of an unserious gathering, according to a report from VANGUARD.
Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to Wike, said in a statement on Saturday that PDP members in Ibadan had turned the national convention into an early celebration. “They went to Ibadan to start their own Dirty December in November. When people decide to start their Dirty December early, one can’t help but ignore whatever comes out of their mouths,” he said.
He added that the event was “purely for social enjoyment,” noting that after indulging in drinks, participants were “free to say anything,” suggesting their comments should not be taken seriously.
Vanguard earlier reported that the PDP expelled Wike, Fayose, factional chairman Samuel Anyanwu, and others over alleged anti-party activities. The motion, moved by Chief Bode George and seconded by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, received unanimous support.
This came despite multiple court orders stopping the convention, with senior party figures warning the Damagum-led faction against actions capable of further destabilising the PDP.
