U.S. President Donald Trump has been accused of breaking the dress code at Pope Francis’ funeral after arriving in a blue suit and shiny blue tie.

The strict Vatican guidelines asked men to wear dark suits, long black ties, and white shirts, with black shoes, socks, coats, and umbrellas. While Trump wore a mid-blue outfit adorned with an American flag pin, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky wore no tie, and President Joe Biden also chose a blue tie.

Critics accused them of “disrespect,” noting that most leaders wore all black. “Why is Trump the only male world leader who is wearing a blue suit? Has he no sense of appropriacy? Shame on him,” said Alison Graham. Another viewer, Sam, added: “How disrespectful Trump is wearing a blue suit to a funeral.”

Melania Trump, sitting beside her husband on her 55th birthday, wore a conservative black coat, lace veil, and gloves.

The funeral drew hundreds of thousands to St Peter’s Square to mourn the late Pontiff, remembered as “a pope among the people.”
