A sudden thunderstorm on Lake Tahoe capsized a boat carrying 10 people during a birthday celebration. Eight died, including a DoorDash executive.
Eight people died Saturday after a boat capsized during a sudden thunderstorm on Lake Tahoe, authorities confirmed.
The victims were part of a group celebrating the 71st birthday of Paula Bozinovich near D.L. Bliss State Park on the lake’s West Shore when 8-foot waves overturned the vessel. Ten people were on board; two survived.
Among the dead was Joshua Pickles, 37, a DoorDash executive from San Francisco. He is survived by his wife, Jordan Sugar-Caarslgad, and their 7-month-old daughter.
The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office identified the other victims as Bozinovich, her husband Terry Pickles, 73, their relative Peter Bayes, 72, and friends Timothy O’Leary, 71; Theresa Giullari, 66; James Guck, 69; and Stephen Lindsay, 63.
“Four were family members who lived in Northern California,” SFGATE reported. “They were joined by friends, some of whom had traveled across the country.”
The two survivors were hospitalized. As of Tuesday, their condition remains unknown, according to Sgt. Kyle Parker of the sheriff
’s office.
