Security operatives on Tuesday barred suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from entering the National Assembly complex in Abuja, sparking a tense standoff. The Kogi Central lawmaker arrived with prominent activist Aisha Yesufu, rights advocate Mama P, activist Randy, and a group of supporters.
Upon being denied access, Yesufu confronted security personnel and challenged the directive reportedly instructing Natasha’s exclusion. “National Assembly is meant to be for everyone. Why are you stopping us?” she asked. She added, “We are not abiding doesn’t mean we are cowards.”
The confrontation intensified as some of Natasha’s supporters began chanting “Push!” and attempted to breach the gate. The group later marched toward the complex singing solidarity songs.
The reason for the senator’s suspension and exclusion remains unclear, but tensions appeared to rise as the crowd pressed for access.
Further developments are expected as the situation unfolds.
