Nigeria’s secret police have uncovered an alleged plot to fuel conflict in Delta State, arresting a British Army Major and recovering weapons. The arms deal, linked to political tensions in Warri, is now under full investigation.

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested an Itsekiri man serving as a Major in the British Army for allegedly supplying weapons to criminals in Delta State.

The secret police recovered 50 AK-47 rifles, six pump-action shotguns, and over 3,000 rounds of ammunition during a covert operation in Asaba, the state capital.

Multiple sources confirmed that DSS operatives from the Delta Command apprehended the prime suspect and several associates. The British Army officer was reportedly intercepted in Lagos while attempting to board a flight to the United Kingdom.

A source said: “An Itsekiri serving in the British Army is alleged to have procured weapons and ammunition at the behest of one Collins to instigate unrest in Warri.”

The source added: “Shortly thereafter, DSS agents in Lagos intercepted the British Major as he tried to cross Nigeria’s border en route to the United Kingdom. All suspects are now in DSS custody. The DSS will carry out a full and transparent investigation.”

Investigations also link the case to disputes over the delineation of wards and polling units in Warri Federal Constituency, with a powerful traditional ruler reportedly under discreet scrutiny.
