DSS: IPOB members ate human flesh for fortification

“We saw some ESN members, about seven, with human heads and some eating human flesh…a slain member was also buried with 2,000 heads as instructed by Kanu” – DSS official

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday heard graphic testimony in the terrorism trial of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu.

A Department of State Services (DSS) official alleged that members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), IPOB’s militant wing, engaged in cannibalism, stating, “We saw some ESN members… with human heads and some eating human flesh, which they said was for spiritual fortification.”

The DSS witness said over 170 security officers were killed across the Southeast due to directives allegedly issued by Kanu in his broadcasts.

The official also claimed that Kanu instructed followers to bury a slain commander, Ikonso, with 2,000 human heads—though only 30 were recovered.

On the controversial Radio Biafra, the witness said the National Broadcasting Commission never licensed its transmitter, which was smuggled in from Germany.

He also described how former presidential aide Ahmed Gulak was killed in Owerri after being profiled at an IPOB checkpoint. According to testimony, “They asked him to remove his cap and, seeing a Muslim prayer mark, said: ‘He is one of them’ and shot him.”

Justice James Omotosho adjourned the trial to Thursday after discharging the fourth prosecution witness.
