Gunmen, suspected to be bandits, yesterday attacked a House of Representatives member for Borgu and Agwara Federal Constituency in Niger State, Jafaru Ali.

In a statement released on its official X handle, Department of State Services (DSS) announced that it has dismissed 115 personnel as part of its efforts to “sanitize its ranks” and maintain professionalism within the service. According to GUARDIAN reporting, the dismissals took place over a period of time and the names of those affected have been published on the DSS website.

The move comes amid news of a brazen ambush by suspected bandits on Jafaru Ali, the member of the House of Representatives for Borgu and Agwara federal constituency in Niger State. The attack occurred at about 1:00 pm in Kuble village along the Agwara/Babana road, as the lawmaker was en route to meet constituents over planned developmental projects. Several people in his convoy, including his security aides, sustained injuries.

The DSS further warned the public against interacting with individuals posing as its operatives, particularly those who have been dismissed. It reiterated that verification of identity is essential before individuals engage with anyone claiming to be a DSS member.

As of filing the report, no official comment has yet been issued by other security agencies on the ambush.
