The DSS official said the statement of Kanu was taken in presence of two legal representatives of the IPOB leader, including Aloy Ejimakor.
A Department of State Services (DSS) operative, testifying as “BBB,” told the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday that Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), admitted during interrogation to inciting violence against police officers. The witness, led by federal government counsel Adegboyega Awomolo, said Kanu also founded the Eastern Security Network (ESN), IPOB’s armed wing, and operated an unlicensed Radio Biafra.
The DSS official stated that he was part of the team that interrogated Kanu on July 17, 2021, following a directive from the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF). The session was conducted in the presence of Kanu’s lawyers, including Aloy Ejimakor. The witness did not provide further details on the alleged confession but emphasized Kanu’s leadership roles in IPOB and ESN.
Kanu, who faces terrorism-related charges, has repeatedly denied accusations of violence. The trial continues amid tight security, with the prosecution presenting its case before Justice James Omotosho.
