€300 Nigerian visa fee in Europe sparks outcry as tourists choose Ghana, Togo

“…Three hundred euros just to visit Nigeria? No breakdown, no clarity, just payments and more payments,” said one Dutch applicant anonymously.

Complaints are mounting among foreign travellers over Nigeria’s visa fees, now as high as €300 in some European countries, making it the region’s costliest entry permit and pushing visitors toward Ghana and Togo.

A breakdown shows applicants pay €110–€130 for processing, €90 for biometrics, and €60–€80 in extra service charges to third-party handlers.

“I was shocked. Three hundred euros just to visit Nigeria? No breakdown, no clarity, just payments and more payments,” said one Dutch applicant anonymously.

Another traveller, Marieke van Dijk, lamented:

“Three hundred euros? Just for one entry into Nigeria? That’s more than what I paid for my flight!”

Meanwhile, Ghana offers visas on arrival for $150, while Togo’s e-visa costs €38–€68, with approvals in 3–5 days.

Travel consultants blame opaque outsourcing practices and inflated fees.

“We say we want tourists and investors, but we make them suffer at the gate,” said Lucas Adetunji, a Nigerian agent in Rotterdam.

A Foreign Ministry source admitted the visa system is “overdue for review,” but internal resistance remains.

Experts warn Nigeria’s outdated, expensive visa policy undermines its economic goals, calling for urgent reform to compete in West Africa’s tourism market.
