Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, says he suspended the signing of Certificates of Occupancy after discovering that a 17-year-old allegedly possesses about 14,000 hectares of land.
Okpebholo disclosed this while addressing members of the Shift Naija Initiative, a non-governmental organisation, in Benin City.
He said the government is investigating the teenager’s source of income before resuming the signing process, noting that the certificates have already been printed.
The governor also criticised the N8 billion spent by the previous administration on consultancy for software development, describing it as wasteful. He said his government has now developed its own system managed by trained staff.
Okpebholo further condemned the alleged encroachment of the Edo Specialist Hospital land by the Museum of West African Art, saying only 20 per cent of the hospital’s land remains.
He listed achievements in education, infrastructure, and agriculture, adding that work on a second flyover would begin soon.
