EFCC has arrested Angel Oyeghe, a self-acclaimed archbishop in Warri, after a viral video showed church members spraying naira notes on a live cow.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Angel Oyeghe, the self-acclaimed archbishop and founder of Faith Healing Ministry in Warri, Delta state, according to a report from THECABLE. The commission said Oyeghe was taken into custody on Tuesday following a viral video showing “several individuals under her supervision” spraying naira notes on a live cow during a church programme.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the EFCC confirmed that the cleric was arrested by operatives of its Benin zonal directorate. The agency said she will be charged in court for conspiracy, naira mutilation and alleged money laundering.

“The Commission is on the trail of arresting other suspects, as their action contravenes the provision of Section 21 of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007,” the statement reads. The EFCC added that the arrested cleric “has made useful statements and will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.”

The commission reiterated its commitment to enforcing laws guiding the handling of the Nigerian currency and warned that actions such as spraying or mutilating banknotes remain punishable offences under existing regulations.

The viral incident has attracted wide reactions online, with many Nigerians calling for stricter enforcement of laws against naira abuse.
