Suspected thugs on Tuesday set ablaze the Ekiti ADC secretariat and disrupted the inauguration of party executives in Ado-Ekiti.
Suspected political thugs on Tuesday set fire to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) secretariat in Ado-Ekiti, disrupting the inauguration of new party executives.
The attack, which occurred in the early hours, razed the party office at Basiri Area and destroyed valuables including chairs, canopies, and sound equipment. The hoodlums later regrouped and stormed the inauguration venue, shooting into the air and vandalising vehicles and equipment.
ADC National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, condemned the incident, calling it “a shameful display of intolerance and a dangerous threat to democracy.” He faulted security agencies for failing to protect the party’s property.
Former Ekiti Deputy Governor, Kolapo Olusola-Eleka, also described the incident as “political terrorism” and criticised the police for their slow response.
Police spokesman Sunday Abutu confirmed the attack, saying the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, had ordered a full investigation to arrest those responsible.
