El-Rufai dismisses speculation, says he’s not vying for Senate or presidency

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has dismissed speculation about running for Senate or any elective office in 2027, emphasizing that his return to politics is solely to support credible leadership.

Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, reiterated today that he will not be seeking election to the Senate, the presidency, or any other office in the 2027 general elections. Speaking in Kaduna while receiving a group of PDP youths who recently defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), El-Rufai said his political resurgence is aimed not at personal gain, but at fostering credible leadership at both state and national levels .

“This is a government that does nothing but lie every day. Everyone’s conscience tells them the truth. I am not contesting for anything; I don’t want to go to the Senate. I am not contesting for any position. That is why I am calling on you: let us join hands and ensure we remove the oppressors,” he stated .

He added that after completing his tenure as governor, he intended to retire from partisan politics, but recent events compelled him to reengage—not to seek power, but to contribute to better governance .

El-Rufai, who served two terms as governor and previously as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, reaffirmed he had “previously declared that he won’t run for any elective office” .
